Jimmie Ray Youngblood, my brother died in 1968. At the time of his death, he was a nuclear physisist working as a research scientist for the Atomic Energy Commission. His actual job was classified, however, the location he was working at the time of his death, indicates that he may have been doing research and developement on the nutron bomb. It is my understanding that all the people who working on his project are now deceased.
Jimmie had received his bachlors degree at A&M in 1963. While at A&M he married his SFA Acapella sweetheart, Jeanette Lynch. After A&M they moved to Ames Iowa, where he got his masters degree from Iowa State University and in the process helped to build the campus nuclear reactor.
They later moved to Amarilla, Texas to work in research and developement at Pantex Ordinance. (Part of the Atomic Energy Commission projects).
This was the last place he worked before he died. In 1968, he started having some ailments, it was determined that he had cancer. In 30 days he was dead. Some guys from the Atomic Energy Commission came to his house, seized all his notes, radiation badge, and disappeared.
Jimmie's wife, Jeanette was left with 2 small children and only a small insurance policy. BUT she was a survivor! She raised those two children to be outstanding in their endevours. Their son, put himself through school. Brian Youngblood is the head band director for the TCU Horned Frog Band. He has taken them all over the country and this year to the Rose Bowl.
Tracy Youngblood-Hobbs also put herself through school and is now an instructor for Registered Nurses.

School Story:

Growing up, I was 6 years younger, and did not attend SFA at the same time as Jimmie. However, I did become aquainted with some of his friends, especially David Winningham. Jimmie and David would often study together at our house. They were always doing something to pick on me. I would often fall asleep in the bedroom, snoring bad, even then. They were known to pick me up and carry me outside the house or put shaving cream on me. (Big Brother).
Once Jimmie challenged what I wanted to do in college. I told him I wanted to play football. He told me that was unlikely. That made me mad. At that time I was playing football at Lamar Jr. High. That year, we were undefeated, un-tied, and unscored on. And yes, I did play football in college. He was very prowd of my accomplishments, as I was of his.
Jimmie was a good guy, a solid Christian, and devoted to family. His family continues to grow. He has two grandsons and three grand daughters. He also has two great grand children and will soon have identicall twin girl grand daughters.

Another note of how my brother, Jimmie, always thought "outside the box".  David Winningham may remember this.  He was at A&M and had an extreamly hard professor in a very hard physics class.  The prof told the class that the next quiz was going to be virturely impossible to pass and that he actually expected most to fail it.  About a week before the quiz, the prof felt somewhat sorry for the difficulty of the upcoming quiz and told the class that they could bring all the notes they could get of a 4 X 6 index card.

Jimmie managed to have 26 pages of notes microfilmed onto a 4 X 6 index card.  The prof didn't hesitate in letting him use it, with a magnifier.
