I am so glad to find this website. I do not have year books from all the years at SFA and Lamar. I've been in contact with a great many former students, but would love to hear from more. After all the moves, I have very little memorabilia, but would welcome email photos from any of you. I travel Memory Lane a great deal of the time on my Blog and welcome any and all to drop in. From my last year at SFA (1971) I have traveled from the east coast to the west coast of this great nation. I had a successful career in broadcasting capped off by induction into the Nevada Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2001. I have led music in various churches and substituted in elementary music. I was a principal actor in the Houston based "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" that traveled from Houston to 25 other cities from 1978 to 1981, ending our National Tour II in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Desert Inn. I was billed as J. Nick Walker(alias from my overnight "NightWalker" on KODA-fm in Houston). I had two roles. Once the show closed in Vegas, I began an eight-year career in broadcasting. I also substituted in Clark County Schools as well as full time in 'at risk' elementary schools. We moved to Charlotte after 24 years in Vegas. I subbed and taught full time at Northside Christian Academy in Charlotte for 3-years. I will be relocating to a Senior Assisted Living facility in Longview on February 4.

School Story:

How is it possible to share memories of the few years in Bryan? Your class was my first and a gift from Carl Best. No other high school choir accomplished the year you did. New York and Washington D.C. as well as attendees to the Rotary International Convention and worldwide television were blessed by your visit. Roger Wagner will never forget "the finest High School Choir he has ever worked with." All due to the musicianship of Mr. Best. Then there were excellent performances all over the place with guest appearances at KHOU-tv in Houston one Christmas and a special guest appearance on KLRN, with Billy Arhos in Austin and those great Musicals, accompanied by members of the Houston Symphony in the Civic. What a joy it was to escape the Dungeon and have A/C in our grand classroom near Mr. Briggs and the Bronco Band. And those nights when I was granted opportunity to introduce the "BrrrrYan Brrrronco Band" and the Lasso's at half-time. (By the way I was 'fired' from my volunteer PA work during the games by Mr. Stegall, just prior to one of the last Homecoming games. The reason was that I 'distracted' from the game. Hmmmm. Concerts, Sweepstakes and a score of All-Region, All-State Choir members and the magic of our "Benediction" just simply brings chillbumps to these old arms. "The Lord Bless You and Keep You" AMEN

Julia,
Long time no see! I am pleased to know that you are still around. We had a great year in '59 and you were one of the most pleasant of students. Please, stay in touch. I have a podcast on www.waterwader.blog that will keep you current with your elderly choir director.

you two will always be in my Hall of Honor! I loved working with you and respect you. Buddy, you were one of the men who truly deserved advancement in Bryan Public Schools. You stood for honest education, but never 'rocked the boat'. For that fact alone I say "AMEN"! Donchaknow. God Bless you both!
