I graduated from A&M in 1964. Mary and I took teaching jobs in Silsbee and started work on our masters degrees. After completing my masters in Chemistry with a Math minor I took a job teaching Chemistry at Temple College.
I became interested in computers starting with the Apple II for use with chemical calculations and became skilled at programming in several languages. I taught basic computer skills to public school teachers and continuing education students in the early days of computing. I wrote several computer lab programs over time which I modified through the years. This led to a teacher of the year award at TC in 1989 and two state honors. They were the Piper Professor Award and Texas HB 858 for teaching excellence in higher education. TC still uses the programs I developed. I was the Chairman of the Chem Phys and Engr Department when I retired in 2001.
I am a member of FUMC, Sigma Xi, Texas Pecan Growers Assoc., Cherokee Nation, and NRA (Life member). My hobbies include gardening and growing pecans. I have a small pecan orchard and I am President of the Bell County Pecan Growers Association. At the state show in July 2017 I won first place for the Waco variety plus a second and third place in two other varieties. This summer (2020) was another year for drought. Again few pecans and mostly poor quality. Our place has been surrounded by development and land now sells by the square foot.

Hi Glenn,
Happy Birthday. You have asked about the pecans in the past so here goes. Too much rain then none for along period resulted in low yield and poor quality in central Texas. I entered 3 varieties and won 3 firsts and Reserve Champion and Reserve Grand Champion in the Bell/Williamson Show. We have been looking off and on for a smaller place with fewer things to maintain. I hope your family is well and hope see you one of these trips to Bryan. RH
